Our methodology

1. We start from the public Task List

ASE publishes a Task List for every certification test, free, at ase.com. It is the blueprint: it names each area of the test, the tasks a technician is expected to be able to perform, and how many scored questions each area is worth. That document is our starting point — and because it is public, you can read it yourself.

2. Every question is ours

ASE does not publish its real test questions, and nobody can legitimately sell them to you. So we write our own questions and our own explanations. Each one is written against a single, named task from the Task List, with distractors a working technician might actually pick — not obviously wrong throwaways.

3. An independent judge checks every question

Before a question can reach you it has to pass validation: a separate automated judge, running a different model and a different prompt, never sees how the question was written. It checks the marked answer and the explanation for technical accuracy against real-world service practice, checks that the item genuinely tests the named task, and looks for ambiguity or a giveaway answer. Anything that fails is discarded, not patched up.

The result: every question records the task it covers, which is also how we measure Task List coverage for each series. The documents we work from are listed on our sources page.

4. Explanations that say why

An answer key teaches nothing. Every explanation says why the correct answer is correct — and on a Technician A / Technician B item, why each technician is right or wrong. That is the reasoning you need in the bay, not a letter to memorise.

5. Technician A / Technician B is original work

The signature ASE format is the Technician A / Technician B item, where two technicians each make a claim and you decide who is right. Because ASE never releases its real items, ours are written from scratch to the same format and the same standard, so the wording is familiar on test day.

What we do not do

• No “real exam questions.” Anyone selling you those is either guessing or copying — ASE keeps its item bank closed.
• Nothing borrowed. We do not lift questions, explanations or illustrations from other study products; only the public Task List spec is reused.
• No invented pass rates. We publish only numbers our own data supports.
